What is “Adopt a Bump-Out on Lakeshore Program”?
Adopt a Bump-Out on Lakeshore Program is a litter prevention and beautification program sponsored by the Public Works Department to attract public involvement in beautifying and picking up litter in the 7 “Bump-Outs” along Lakeshore Blvd, on the coast of Little Lake Harris. The objective is to keep the Town of Howey-in-the-Hills cleaner and greener by allowing the community to assume responsibility for sections of Bump-Outs along Lakeshore Dr.
Who can Adopt?
Any civic minded Howey-in-the-Hills individual resident or family can adopt a Bump-Out.
What are the Responsibilities of Adopting a Bump-Out?
By adopting one of the Town’s seven Bump-Outs a resident or family commits to keep a section of Town of Howey-in-the-Hills cleaner and greener. More specifically, the resident or family will:
- Commit to at least once a month remove litter, trim ground plants, and pick-up leaf and frond fall.
- Agree to a 1-year commitment.
- All individuals participating in the program will sign Release of Liability, and if necessary, Parental Consent forms in the form approved by the Town.
- The resident or family will also commit to not trimming any trees.
What are the Responsibilities of the Public Works Department?
By supporting the Adopt a Bump-Out on Lakeshore program, the Public Works Department will:
- Furnish and erect a sign that indicates the bump-out and the responsible resident or family.
- Manage the canopy (trim trees, etc.).
- Furnish large bags for waste or trimmings.
